Plenum and coil
Duct mold removal for Houston homes
We check the ductwork for mold and bacteria, the growth that thrives on the coil and filters and pushes up energy use.
Where mold gets a foothold in the system
Mold and bacteria can thrive in HVAC ductwork. They don't need much: a surface that stays damp, a film of dust to hold on to, and air moving past all day. In a cooling system the air conditioner coil is the obvious damp spot, and the filters beside it catch the dust that gives growth something to cling to.
The trouble shows up in two places. Mold growing on the coil and filters can push up energy consumption and add to air pollution inside the house. Growth in the ductwork itself means whatever it releases rides the airflow into every room that has a register. Viruses and fungi can also produce toxic substances that affect your family's health, which is why we take a damp, dusty duct seriously.
Houston homes run the air conditioner for much of the year, so the coil spends a lot of time wet. That's why we look at the coil and filters as well as the duct runs when mold is the question.

Checking the ducts and clearing the growth out
The visit starts with a look. We check the ductwork for mold, bacteria and other material that's unhealthy to breathe, working from the registers back along the runs toward the plenum and the coil, and we tell you what we find. If the ducts are clean, we say that too, and the estimate is still free.
Clearing it is a clean-out job. Professional tools and a vacuum work through the affected runs so the material leaves the system instead of being pushed further down the line. If someone in your house has allergies or asthma, this is the kind of work that's worth asking about.
Our $98 coupon reads clean your duct and vents, priced per unit, restrictions may apply, one coupon per customer and not combinable with any other offer. Whether your system fits it, or whether mold work is quoted on its own, is exactly what the free estimate is for.
Keeping it from building back up
Cleaning removes what's there. It doesn't change the conditions that grew it. That's why we also install a UV light at the air handler, which reduces the chance of mold and build-up collecting again after the clean. It's an add-on to the cleaning, not a replacement for it.
Filters are the other half. A filter that's grey and overdue stops catching dust and leaves it to settle on the coil. Keep an eye on yours, and if it looks loaded or you smell something musty when the system starts, that's the moment to call.
